Key Takeaways
There are bitcoin trading cards for salesome things that you just have to see to believe, and this video that ABC News shared on Monday, November 25th is one of them. In mid-November, marine life enthusiast, as ABC News referred to Evan Brodsky, captured a video of what he called an "avalanche" in the Monterey harbor. It's not unusual to spot sea lions there, but the number of them on that day was staggering!
Watch on as the sea lions all tumble down an embankment towards the ocean. They're all trying to get into the water at once, and it's incredible to see. Make sure your sound is on because it's a noisy activity, too!
This was just wild to watch! Commenters also got a kick out of the video ABC News shared. @jackson made me laugh when they said, "The apples after I pick an apple off the bottom of the pile at the grocery store." and @Hazard added, "The whole class after school ends for the day." @Deborah Kaye Ross-Co shared, "When I saw it on the news, they one stated sliding and the rest just followed him/her!!! LOL!" @Ooo spoke for all of us when they said, "I’m a big fan of whatever this is!"
All About Sea Lions
If you watched the video with the sound on, you may have been able to hear the sea lions' grunts and other noises. Sea lionsmake a variety of different sounds and are generally pretty noisy. If you've ever visited an aquarium, you've probably heard them yelling, barking, and honking before you even saw them. In fact, their calls are so loud that they can be heard several miles away!
Just like dogs bark, sea lions bark, grunt, growl, roar, and whistle and each is a different form of communication. According to Support Wild, "male sea lions use specific vocalizations to attract a mate, while female sea lions use specific vocalizations to communicate with their pups." They also use the sounds to coordinate while hunting.
There are a few common sounds heard frequently.Barking is used as a threat response and to let other males know that territory belongs to them. Growls are made when sea lions are being aggressive, and roars, whines, and buzzing sounds are used during mating season.Sea lions also use their sense of vision and smell to identify each other in groups, too.
Moms and their babies have a special way of communicating with each other. It's called the 'mother-pup recognition sequence.' After feeding, the mom makes a loud trumpeting sound, and in response the pup calls back. They continue repeating this until they find each other. Mom uses a very high-pitched alarm call to protect her sea lion pup, as mother sea lions are highly aggressive and protective, just like mama bears.
